triathlons

Before I was a runner, I was a swimmer. For about a year and a half before I started running, I swam anywhere from 750-2000m on an almost-daily basis. I suppose, then, it’s no surprise that I find myself somewhat attracted to the idea of a triathlon.

There are a couple of major tris here in the midwest- the Kansas City Tri is the biggest local tri, and the HyVee Tri is not too far. Now I do have to admit, at this point I’m more attracted to shorter, “sprint” distances- a 750m swim, 20k bike, and 5k run sounds plenty challenging for me. Olympic distances (1.5k swim, 40k bike, 10k run) sounds harder but still possibly reasonable. I am absolutely nowhere near the Ironman distances (3.9k swim, 180k bike, 42k run)! Of course, I am also just barely almost maybe possibly starting to wrap my mind around the idea of running a full marathon (26.2 miles)!

None of this will happen too soon, though. I simply don’t have it in my budget to purchase a bicycle, not to mention the other accessories I would need. It’s fun to dream, though, and to train in hopes of maybe one day adding a tri to my race schedule!
