negative splits, shoes

Wow, I totally forgot to write yesterday, and now I’m sleep deprived and struggle to concentrate!

Yesterday I ran 3.75 miles in 1 hour. It was what I would call “hill intervals”- it was on the treadmill at the gym, and I ran at a 5% incline except for the occasional “dip” back down to 0% to give my legs a break.

Today I ran 4.33 miles in 1 hour and 5 minutes. Today’s run was extra special because I pushed myself extra hard during the last half hour or so. I am NOT good at pacing or at “negative splits“, and usually the last half of a workout is much more of a struggle and not as strong as the first half. Today I pushed and pushed- I ran something like a 15:47 pace for the first half hour, but then I pushed it down to nearly a 13:00 pace for the last half! I’m very proud of this!

I’m still nervous about my upcoming race. I just don’t feel confident about long distances like this. After this race, I don’t know what I will do next- whether I will continue at long distances or cut back to 5-10k and work on building my confidence. One thing at a time, I suppose.

Oh also, I need new running shoes. Badly. But I haven’t had time to get to a shoe store or running store, and I’m just really, really, really needing to do that now!!
