the best-laid plans of mice and men…

Last night, I knew that if I was going to do an outdoor run today, I would have to get up early in the morning before the heat really built up. I also knew that I was sleep deprived from a few busy days earlier this week.

Somehow, I always forget this, but anytime there’s a competition with sleep, sleep always wins.

Since I slept right through the time this morning that would have been tolerable outdoors, I was forced to run on the treadmill at the gym. Sometimes I can do a decent long run on the treadmill, but usually, unless I’m pushing a lot of buttons (like I would in an interval or hill workout), I struggle to run beyond a mile on the treadmill. This was one of those days. Alas. I managed two (SLOW!) miles in 30:00.

To appease my guilt over the long run that wasn’t very long, I followed that with ten minutes and 3.6 miles on the stationary bike.

Tomorrow, I might try for a run again, but it’s really going to depend on how I’m feeling. I’m pleasantly sore today (from yesterday’s weights), but if I’m still sore tomorrow, I may call it a rest day. Either way, this has been a very good workout week!
