It’s been crazy lately, but today I’m quite happy. I had to work a lot over the weekend, and was unable to exercise. Since I was not able to exercise over the weekend, I decided to push myself today.
Now you gotta understand, it is REALLY hard for me to push myself. Not trying to sound like a wimp, but after ~27 years of associating negative thoughts with athleticism and my own athletic ability, I have some pretty huge mental walls!
Today I headed out for a run- nothing terribly long, since I don’t really have the time to devote to a long run, but a solid 5k. And it was solid! The first and third miles were incredibly easy. I caught myself a few times actually wondering why I wasn’t struggling more!
The second mile was (as usual) tough. The first mile is flat, with several downhills, and the third mile is flat. The second mile is almost entirely uphill. Some places are steeper than others, but at some point, it just doesn’t matter anymore. A hill is a hill, and even small hills can become amazingly steep to a mind clouded by running!
But either way, I’m happy. I ran 3.1 miles in 41 minutes. That’s definitely a PR for me (at least on that particular route). I need to practice running hills, which I know is challenging (it’s hard to force myself to do something I don’t much enjoy!) but I’ll do it. For now I’m just looking forward to a good night’s sleep!!
