bodypump: why I didn’t see the inauguration

Yesterday morning, I went to my second-ever BodyPump class at 5:30 am. 5:30am is ridiculously EARLY, especially for a night-owl like me.

I’ve gone to a lot of 5:30am classes in the past couple of years, mostly yoga and PiYo. I’ve created a routine that makes it work for me. I get up at 4:30, get dressed and go to class from 5:30-6:30. I come home, eat breakfast, and work for a couple of hours. Then I go back to bed around 9 or 10am and sleep until noon.

Yesterday was no different – 5:30am class then back to bed from 9-12. I knew beforehand that this would mean I would miss the live inauguration, but I decided that my exercise class was more important.

Please understand, this had absolutely nothing to do with my patriotism. I love my nation, and I’m a proud citizen. I also knew that yesterday’s inauguration was just a show (the “real” inauguration takes place on January 20. Since that fell on a Sunday, the president took the inauguration privately in the Blue Room of the White House. The public show was planned for yesterday.) Not to mention… in our uber-connected world, it was not hard to catch the rerun.

There was a time in our nation when the inauguration wasn’t even public, and people would not travel for miles to see the inauguration. Also, a huge number of citizens missed the live inauguration because they had to work. I think that makes BodyPump a very good reason to miss the live show. 🙂
