Last night my mother mentioned that I need to get signed up for the 5k at her school on April 6. This shocked me. Not that I need to get signed up for the 5k – I’ve been planning to run that race for a long time – but that it’s April 6 and, more specifically, that April 6 is just a week and a half away. I thought I had another month, but then I blinked, and now I only have a week and a half! Yikes!
Oh well – it’s just a fun run and I probably won’t be pushing for a PR. Plus there’s a big hill on the course.
Since that race is so soon, and since it was 60 degrees Fahrenheit and sunny this afternoon!!, I decided to push myself on today’s run. And, if I do say so myself, it was AWESOME!!
I only ran 2.5 miles, but I ran the whole distance (no gallo-walking!) and I’m thrilled with that. Not my best pace ever (something like 14:30 – I let myself go over the winter!), but still awesome for me. Not to mention, this was a huge confidence booster.
I did gain a “marathon tattoo” where my sportsbra rubbed my chest. I don’t think I’ve ever struggled with chafing there before. It’s probably due to mild weight loss and general body reshaping over the winter. Add that to the list of places I need to lube before a run! (between my legs, under my arms, etc.)
Like I said, there’s a big hill on this course that makes me a little nervous. I guess “big” is relative, but it’s big enough. I checked the route maps and I’m surprised to learn that it’s only an elevation gain of 82 feet, but it’s one of those hills that is really longgggg… a good half mile or so.
Either way, I feel awesome. Totally ready for the spring races!
