Breaking in new shoes with my favorite workout partner

I suppose I should have something profound to say, but I don’t.

I don’t want to let this website die off, so… here I am. Between traveling and work, this past summer has been absolutely CRAZY. I’ve allowed myself to ignore this website while dealing with everything else in life, but I know I need to get back into it.

I’m still running fairly regularly, but not as far as I used to run. Most days, I max out at between three and four miles. I would love to do another long-distance race (probably a half-marathon, but perhaps a marathon), but I just don’t have as much time as I feel like I need for training. I haven’t even done any 5ks in awhile, just because I’ve dedicated so much time to work.

Today I got out with my favorite workout buddy:

Since I was breaking in a new pair of shoes, we walked. No running at all! Sadie didn’t mind, of course – walking gives her more time to sniff everything and bark at the birds or squirrels.

Though I didn’t want to run, I definitely felt antsy and focused on walking briskly the whole time. At the end, I was impressed – I maintained an average 16:21 pace, which is pretty fantastic for walking!

In spite of only walking, I managed to get a blister from my new shoes. It’s on the top of my toe, so it’s not too painful once I take the shoe off, but I definitely felt this “hot spot” toward the end of my run.
